Paul Pierce reps his set!
So much basketball, so early in the morning.
Long, long ago black people could communicate with each other in ways that whites would never even notice, an external internal dialogue. The sort of thing that, as you can imagine, any group of prisoners develops. Then there was the internet…
Perhaps I am getting ahead of myself. For those in the readership who watched the Celtics lost to the Hawks and also happen to be caucasian, at the end of the last game Paul Pierce and Hawks forward Al Horford had a confrontation. Well, really Pierce was taunted–and rightly so–for lying on the floor as Al sank a game deciding jumper. Apparently Al did not know that this is Paul Pierce’s standard form of defense, similar to Ray Allen’s stumble and Dirk Nowiztki’s arm flail thing. As Horford ran back on defense Paul Pierce got up and advanced towards the young forward while holding aloft a hand gesture instantly recognizable to a significant portion of negroes. Thumb and forefinger curled to form a circle, the other three fingers stretched out, can be interpreted many ways but all of them amount to one thing; a Blood gang sign.
To be honest, I feel ambivalent even writing about this because I know what is coming, no longer is our society segregated enough that the flow of information won’t reach people who have no idea what any of that is. I have no readers so that eases my feelings of guilt but nonetheless…I can see it now;
Stuart Scott hangs around the other black guys in the ESPN mailroon and, as usual, tries to appropriate any of their slang, clever sayings or talking points into his increasingly lame schtick.
The moment he realizes what happened, Stuart Scott brings it up on SportsCenter.
Bill O’Reilly gets wind and does a piece about gangsters (and that “rap music”) overrunning the NBA. I can see it now; Josh Howard hooked on weed rolled in “philly blunts” [don't confuse "The Chronic" with weed from the 60's, the weed they smoke now is like acid + heroin!!!!!!!!!!], Deshawn Stevenson’s “invisible man” gesture, which is actually lifted directly from Tony Yayo, Jay-Z’s diss track, Lebron and Soulja Boy, Paul Pierce throwing gang signs, Kobe back in Colorado….
David Stern passes new rule that makes any gesturing with your hands a breach of the rules.
And for anyone trying to say maybe Pierce was doing something else…dude is from Inglewood California…I think he knows what a Blood sign in…
I also wonder if this is what got Paul stabbed up way back when.
Moving along…since I probably already talked about it too much..
Um…Dallas…
Dirk should have been dealt after last year…if Cuban does not do so, which he won’t, this team is going nowhere ever.
Jason Terry is a herb. That Bass guy is a keeper. Devean George should retire and then eat a lead sandwich in his garage with the car running and a hose from the exhaust directly into the drivers side window. Josh Howard has had the worst collapse of any player since Vin Baker, someone check his locker for 40s. Jason Kidd’s career is over…sorry buddy…a couple years too late. Dallas needs to realize they are out of paved road and deal Dirk while he still has any value.
Ben Wallace might be garbage now but I still say that the minute Detroit dealt him and decided to just play their PF’s out of position all the time, I knew something was wrong. And sure enough, the post-Big Ben Pistons are many things but they are neither great shotblockers nor capable of keeping elite players out of the lane. They will (probably/maybe) beat Philly but this unit will never win an NBA Championship again or even contend for one unless they kill the small ball and get another shot blocking center. They also have stopped running Hamilton through a million picks off the ball–a la Reggie Miller–and seem to be asking Richard to endorse such tomfoolery.
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiperton!
